ADAS Calibration: Keeping You Safe After a Windscreen Replacement

image

Modern cars are packed with smart technology designed to keep you safe on the road. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include features like lane departure warnings, emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control - all of which rely on cameras and sensors, often mounted on your windscreen. That’s why, if you’ve had a windscreen replacement, ADAS calibration is essential to ensure these systems are working correctly.

Why Does ADAS Calibration Matter?

Even a tiny shift in the position of your windscreen can throw off the accuracy of your car’s safety systems. Without proper calibration, your vehicle might not detect lane markings properly, misjudge distances, or fail to react in an emergency.

When Do You Need ADAS Calibration?

  • A dashboard warning light appears for any driver assistance feature.
  • Your vehicle has been in an accident.
  • A camera or sensor has been moved or disconnected. (When front screen is replaced).

How Does ADAS Calibration Work?

There are two main types of calibration:

  • Static Calibration – Done in a workshop using special equipment to precisely align cameras and sensors.
  • Dynamic Calibration – Requires driving the car at a set speed under specific conditions, allowing the system to adjust itself.

Automotive Windscreens will tell the customer which calibration method, if any, is required uopn quotation.
